“I will make them and the places all around My hill a blessing; and I will cause showers to come down in their season; there shall be showers of blessing.” – Ezekiel 34:26 NKJV.

A young Kelvin grew up marveling at his mother’s passionate love for God’s Word. So moved by her devotion, Kelvin hatched a plan to give her a heavenly surprise. Forget roses or chocolates—Kelvin decided to send his beloved Mom a talking parrot that had been specially trained to recite Bible verses! Imagine his delight, thinking he was gifting her a little minister in feathers.

The Unintentional Twist

A few weeks later, Kelvin rang his mom with eager anticipation. “How did you enjoy the parrot?” he asked excitedly. But what he heard left him utterly flabbergasted: “It tastes so delicious, and I really enjoyed it.”

Kelvin’s heart sank as he repeated, “Mom, did you just say you killed and ate the parrot that could recite most of the Bible?” The bird—a precious, ten-thousand-dollar, Bible-reciting marvel—had been mistaken for dinner! In the words of Dr. Myles Munroe, “When the purpose of a thing is not known, abuse is inevitable!”

The Divine Purpose of Showers of Blessing

This humorous mishap reminds us that the treasures God sends our way—His SHOWERS OF BLESSING—are not meant for self-serving. Instead, they are intended for us to be a blessing to others, just as God promised Abraham.

“…Go away from your country, And from your relatives And from your father’s house, To the land which I will show you; And I will make you a great nation, And I will bless you [abundantly], And make your name great (exalted, distinguished); And you shall be a blessing [a source of great good to others]…And in you all the families (nations) of the earth will be blessed.” [Genesis 12:1-3 Amplified Bible].

Moreover, as Galatians 3:29 AMPC reminds us: “And if you belong to Christ [are in Him Who is Abraham’s Seed], then you are Abraham’s offspring and [spiritual] heirs according to promise.”

Beloved, we’re not meant to hoard blessings like a secret recipe—God designed them to flow out of us to all the families of the earth.

Embracing the Abundance Mindset

Don’t let a comical misunderstanding distract you from the truth: what you already possess in Christ is more than enough to overflow and transform lives around you. God is not looking for reservoirs merely to receive His blessings; He calls us to become channels of divine favor, sharing generously so that others may experience the abundant life promised in John 10:10.

“The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy; I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” [John 10:10 NKJV].

Be the Blessing!

Let Kelvin’s funny yet meaningful story be a reminder for all of us: understand the divine purpose behind the showers of blessing. Equip yourself with a renewed mind [see Romans 12:2] and an abundance mindset that sees every blessing as a calling to be a blessing to others. Step out in faith and become a living testament of God’s grace to all generations.

Stop focusing on what you don’t have and start celebrating what you already have in Christ. Because when you believe, you begin to receive—and when you receive, you begin to bless others.

May you continue to reflect God’s love and generously share His blessings, just as you were born to do, an heir of Abraham’s promise for all the families of the earth! [To be continued next week].
