TINUADE LEADERSHIP ACADEMY

“The value of life lies not in the length of days, but in the use we make of them; a man may live long yet live very little.” – Michel Eyquem de Montaigne.

TINUADE LEADERSHIP ACADEMY

WHO IS TINUADE SANGOLADE?

TINUADE SANGOLADE (March 25, 1979 – January 1, 2002) was a former medical student and a wonderful colleague who crossed over to University College Hospital (UCH) Ibadan with my set in the year 2000 but died in a vehicular accident on January 1, 2002. Before TINUADE SANGOLADE’s death, she was an unusual medical student who though very brilliant distinguished herself by doing what another medical student would not dare to do. She contested for the Vice-Presidency of the UI Students’ Union in 2001 and won!

Tinuade had a passion for transforming not only the health sector but Nigeria at large. She had a clear vision of the path she was going to take to actualize her dreams and that was one of the reasons she took the bold step of contesting for the post of the Vice President of UI Student Union Government.

She was indeed bold, and daring and was not ready to back down amid the challenges the union faced with the university authorities at the time. Her involvement in the University of Ibadan Students` Union Government came at a point when being a medical student meant focusing “solely” on your academics such that any deviation is viewed in the negative by “medical elders”.

However, she was willing to challenge the status quo and traverse uncharted courses even though the stakes were high.

Tinuade was an “all-rounder” and always found a way to balance the different aspects of her life such that one didn’t have to suffer for the other. She gave her academics topmost priority, thriving in her exams and not incurring any re-sits even while she was fully involved in student politics.

As she was passionate about politics, she showed even greater enthusiasm towards God’s Kingdom. She loved and served the Lord and was very committed to the campus fellowship as a choir member.

Tinuade was also very compassionate, empathetic, and willing to lend a helping hand as much as she could.

She pursued her purpose, lived an impactful life within the short time she had, and left behind a legacy that should not be forgotten.

TINUADE upon reflection is:

T – Tenacious

I – Intelligent

N – Non-conformist

U – Unusual

A – Agile and Authentic

D – Daring and Difference Maker

E – Empathic
