“God remembered us when we were down, His love never quits. Rescued us from the trampling boot, His love never quits. Takes care of everyone in time of need. His love never quits. Thank God, who did it all! His love never quits!” – Psalm 136:23-24 Message Bible.

Birthdays come once a year, but for some, it is once in four years if you were born on February 29th. My Mom almost ended up in that category as she was born on February 28th. Birthdays also come with special memories, and for all of us, they are personal and intimate memories!!!

Today, September 21st, happens to be my birthday, filled with special memories, and at the heart of these memories is an event that took place 30 years ago when I made the best and greatest decision of my life by becoming a follower of the Lord Jesus Christ. So today is not just a normal birthday but a celebration of thirty years of walking with the Lord Jesus, who remembers us when we are down and takes care of everyone in times of need. (Psalm 136:23-24 Message Bible).

I remember 30 years ago, when I got admitted for Medicine and Surgery in the great premier University, the University of Ibadan (which is the best institution in West Africa to be trained as a medical doctor), my mom was concerned about how to finance my medical education.

As a widow of 16 years with five children, she couldn’t afford it. As a new believer in Jesus, inspired by the Word of God from the book of Genesis 22:8 New King James Version, where Abraham said to his son, Isaac, “My son, God will provide for Himself the lamb for a burnt offering.” I was assured by God that He Himself would provide the finances for my medical training.

With a childlike faith, I encouraged my concerned mother and started the admission process with the money I had saved during my internship after obtaining a diploma from a Federal Polytechnic.

God, who [faithfully] remembered us in our lowly condition, did fulfill His Word as He made a way for one of my older siblings to miraculously finance my medical education until my graduation. My Mom`s joy knew no bounds on the day of my graduation, as she witnessed the induction ceremony live as I was called to the podium to receive my certificate. Interestingly, the day for my induction ceremony happened to be the twenty-sixth year that my dad transitioned to glory!

My salvation experience has much to do with the open door for my medical education financing, because faith in God was highly instrumental in experiencing the supernatural.

Ephesians 2:12 Good News Translation says, “At that time you were apart from Christ. You were foreigners and did not belong to God’s chosen people. You had no part in the covenants, which were based on God’s promises to his people, and you lived in this world without hope and without God.”

I was apart from Christ until I gave my life to Jesus and made Him the Lord of my life, even though I was born into a religious home.

New birth is the gateway to a new life in Jesus. It is not a religion but a real relationship with the living God. Ephesians 2:19 God`s Word Translation rightly affirms, “That is why you are no longer foreigners and outsiders but citizens together with God’s people and members of God’s family.”

I want to encourage you today. If you are yet to have a relationship with God through faith in the Lord Jesus, please do so today because DIVINE REMEMBRANCE is only for God`s children, and we can only become God`s children through faith in Christ Jesus. [see Galatians 3:26 NLT]. (To be concluded next week).
