Overcoming Challenges
The story of Wilma Golden Rudolph is a very inspiring one. It teaches us never to say a feat is impossible to achieve. Against all odds, you can achieve whatever you set your heart to achieve.
This is the rare story of dedication, hard work, focus, resilience, courage, and strong faith.
Wilma Rudolph was the 20th of 22 children. As a young child, she was paralyzed by polio, and contracted both scarlet fever and double pneumonia.
Many doctors felt she would never walk again, yet she always believed otherwise. By the time she was 12, she had regained her ability to walk and she took up athletics!
At the age of 20, she was already representing her country in the Olympics.
As an American sprinter, she became a world-record-holding Olympic champion and an international sports icon in track and field in no time.
Following her success in the 1956 and 1960 Olympic Games, she was acclaimed as the fastest woman in the world, setting the record of being the very first American woman to win 3 gold medals in a single Olympic Games!
The moral of the story is that any obstacle or challenge can be surmounted, no matter what it is, if only one is courageous enough to believe it can be done.
