“There is nothing noble in being superior to your fellow man; true nobility is being superior to your former self.” — Ernest Hemingway.
Here’s the continuation of the powerful framework to help you center personal growth in your everyday life. We highlighted the first three of last week`s ATM.
4. Surround Yourself with Growth-Minded People
Your environment shapes your evolution.
“People are like dirt. They can either nourish you and help you grow as a person, or they can stunt your growth and make you wilt and die.” — Plato.
When it comes to the environment, only the right environment is conducive to your personal growth and development. Jim Rohn said, “The right environment doesn`t just support your success, it demands it.”
In one of my books, “The BEAUTIFUL People” released two years ago and available on Amazon both hard copies and digital, I highlighted the characteristics of the people you need to surround yourself with using the simple and memorable acronym, BEAUTIFUL.
You need to intentionally surround yourself with people who:
B – Believe in you.
E – Encourage you.
A – Applaud your victories.
U – Unlock your potential.
T – Trust in you.
I – Influence you positively.
F – Fight by your side.
U – Unite with your other allies.
L – Love you unconditionally.
Daily Practice: Connect with someone who inspires you—or be that person for someone else.
5. Reflect and Reset
Growth isn’t linear. Reflection helps you recalibrate.
“Be not afraid of growing slowly; be afraid only of standing still.” — Chinese Proverb.
Reflection is what turns your life`s experiences into wisdom. An example is only the best teacher when coupled with reflection. You can only reset for greater growth as you reflect consistently as a lifestyle. To say no to reflection is to hinder your progression. Reflection must become habitual for you if you want your growth to become perpetual!
Daily Practice: End your day with these reflection questions: “How did I grow today?” “What went right?” “What went wrong?” “What do I need to do differently?” [To be continued next week].
