“You are not just the drop in the ocean. You are the mighty ocean in the drop.” – Poet Rumi_
It was the morning of my 50th birthday. I had just gotten off the phone with my colleague Hannah when a deep thought overwhelmed me.
50 years!…..The GOLDEN year and I have nothing to show for it!!
I mean, imagine Hanna, inviting me to her book signing party and insisting we all wear dress suits with fascinators next weekend, when I have rent hanging, and my child’s fees to pay.
What an irony, I am desperately in need of funds and she is throwing a big book signing party that I must be part of.
Haba Hannah, I mused.
A notification from my phone brought me back to the present. And when I checked, It was a well-crafted message from my Mum, with a picture attached.
“Happy birthday my darling daughter. This is a big year for you, so enjoy it.
Remember. You have, and will always be a warrior, a mighty ocean. Never give up, I love you dearly”
Hmmmm, I said to myself – I am the mighty ocean in the drop! That was it!!
At that moment something sparked up in me.
I laughed and twirled in my room like a little child fighting to get free from the grasp of a bullying adult.
There and then, I decided to rise and roar like the mighty ocean, to ride the waves and regain control. To believe again, and to fight till I make my dreams soar.
Self Reflection:
Are there waves in your life waiting to drown you? What can you do differently today to be the ocean in that drop?
