Many people need help going through life`s difficulties on their own and will need a leader who can navigate them through life`s difficulties until they can do it themselves. Roosevelt said, “A smooth sea never made a skilled sailor.” Just like skilled sailors are not made in a smooth sea, so are skilled leaders who can navigate for people through their life`s difficulties are not made in a moment of calm. When I think about navigation, Christopher Columbus comes to mind. He is an Italian explorer and navigator who completed four voyages across the Atlantic Ocean opening the way for the widespread European exploration and European colonization of the Americas. Navigating for others is more like an ocean voyage. You`ve got to help people find their way, spot icebergs, and weather the stormy seas with you by taking the trip with them until they can chart the course and learn to navigate on their own.
