DISCIPLINE will lead to HABIT, HABIT will lead to CONSISTENCY, and CONSISTENCY will lead to GROWTH. For anyone to grow to their true potential as we saw with Hilda Bassey [who almost gave up in the first 6 hours], the PATH to POTENTIAL is DISCIPLINE and COMMITMENT!
By her admission, chef Hilda Bassey almost bowed out of the challenge early on. She told CNN, “The first day was the most difficult. I was ready to give up six hours in.” However, the chef powered through the original record, giving her the motivation to strive for 100 hours of continuous cooking.
It is COMMITMENT that turns a PROMISE into REALITY and when it comes to COMMITMENT, there are FOUR KINDS of people on planet Earth:
[1]. Cop-outs: People who have no goals and do not commit.
[2]. Holdouts: People who don’t know if they can reach their goals, so they`re afraid to commit.
[3]. Dropouts: People who start toward a goal but quit when the going gets tough.
[4]. All-outs: People who set goals, commit to them, and pay the price to reach them.
The only real measure of commitment is ACTION! COMMITMENT means STAYING LOYAL to what you said you would do long after the mood you set it in has left you. My mentor, Dr. John Maxwell said, “When you make a commitment, you create hope. When you keep a commitment, you create trust!” It is much better and honorable to be a TRUST CREATOR than to be a HOPE CREATOR, because TRUST requires putting others` interest before your own.
As we venture into this great week, consider these two critical questions: What have you been slack about that you know you need to embrace discipline and commitment to execute? Are you a Cop-out, Holdout, Dropout, or All-out? Remember, everyone has the capacity to become an ALL-OUT, but this BECOMING demands a PRICE-TAG called DISCIPLINE and COMMITMENT.
We can either PAY NOW and PLAY LATER or PLAY NOW and PAY LATER. Either way, we are going to PAY and when we PAY LATER, the PRICE will be much higher than it is supposed to be!
