29 years ago, after my new birth experience, I began reading Our Daily Bread devotional. It became a daily habit that nurtured my spiritual growth. But as time passed, I assumed it was only for “baby Christians.” I stopped reading, thinking I had outgrown it. However, about four years ago, the Holy Spirit graciously corrected me.
He reminded me that spiritual growth has no ceiling, and Our Daily Bread is for every believer seeking to grow deeper in Christ. I repented, and since 2020, I have been reading it daily. This simple but profound habit has transformed me, allowing me to grow stronger in my faith and make radical progress personally and professionally.
A Message of Hope: Excelsior!
Recently, in the September 4, 2024, edition of Our Daily Bread, Adam R. Holtz shared a powerful message based on Philippians 3:14 and titled, “Excelsior!” He recounted a surprising yet spiritual lesson from an unlikely source: Marvel Comics. Stan Lee, the creator of iconic superheroes like Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four, and the Hulk, often signed off with the catchphrase “Excelsior.” In 2010, he explained its meaning: “Upward and onward to greater glory!”
Doesn’t that phrase beautifully echo Philippians 3:13-14 (NKJV)? It encourages us to “forget those things which are behind and reach forward to those things which are ahead,” reminding us that our best days are not behind us but ahead! God’s desire for us is to keep moving Upward and Onward to Greater Glory.
A Call to Keep Moving Forward: Don’t Settle for Less!
In the same way, no matter how much we’ve achieved, there is always more ahead. As Philippians 3:14 declares, “I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” We must keep moving forward in faith, pursuing the higher calling God has for us. Our journey in Christ is one of continuous growth—moving from glory to glory, strength to strength, and faith to faith.
In the words of John Maxwell: “Growth is the only guarantee that tomorrow will get better.” Never settle for average; YOU ARE MADE FOR MORE!
