“A mentor empowers a person to see a possible future and believe it can be obtained.” ― Shawn Hitchcock.
Here is the continuation of this teaching series using the DREAM acronym. In this week’s teaching, we will highlight the alphabet ‘M’ which stands for Mentorship Factor.
M – Mentorship Factor: Accelerating Your Journey
“A mentor is someone who sees more talent and ability within you than you see in yourself, and helps bring it out of you.” — Bob Proctor.
Mentorship is the great equalizer between where you are and where you want to be. A wise man once said, “Mentors rescue us from tormentors.” These “tormentors” need not be people; they can be the quiet frustrations, self-doubt, and blind spots that keep your potential hidden. With the right mentor, these obstacles become stepping stones instead of roadblocks.
When I joined the Maxwell Leadership Team four years ago under the guidance of Dr. John Maxwell, I gained far more than professional insights. I stepped into a vibrant community of thought leaders, influencers, and seasoned mentors who helped me see what I couldn’t see on my own. They became the mirrors, compasses, and partners that propelled my life—personally and professionally—into new dimensions of impact.
Mentorship: Your Shortcut to Greatness
My mentor, Dr. John Maxwell said, “One of the greatest values of mentors is the ability to see ahead what others cannot see and to help them navigate a course to their destination.” Mentorship isn’t just about having someone wiser at your side, it’s a strategic alliance that accelerates growth. It provides the wisdom you haven’t earned yet, a guiding hand that helps you avoid pitfalls, and the validation that empowers you to push past your comfort zones.
Mentors: Your Personal GPS
“Show me a successful individual, and I’ll show you someone who had real positive influences in his or her life.” — Denzel Washington.
Think of mentors as navigators who help chart the course of your destiny. Their insights can shave years off your learning curve, enabling you to fast-track achievements that might otherwise remain tantalizingly out of reach. They don’t just save you time; they save you from unnecessary mistakes, false starts, and disappointments.
Finding Your Guiding Light
Seek out mentors who have traversed the roads you wish to travel. Don’t look for perfection—look for authenticity, wisdom, and an earnest desire to see you thrive. The best mentors challenge you, support you, and remind you that your dreams aren’t too big; they’re just waiting for you to grow into them. [To be concluded next week].
