“Who does great things, [beyond understanding,] unfathomable, Yes, marvelous and wondrous things without number.” – Job 9:10 Amplified Bible.
What Comes to Mind When You Hear the Word “MIRACLE”?
Do you believe in miracles? Are miracles only for Bible times, or are they still for today? Dr. Oral Roberts, a man anointed by God to bring His healing power to the world, shared an insightful perspective in his book, EXPECT A MIRACLE: “Once a man said to me, ‘I don’t believe in miracles.’ I said, ‘You will when you need one.” Dr. Roberts continued, “Since then, I’ve often said that I breathe by a miracle. I talk by a miracle. I live by a miracle. Take miracles out of my life, and I’d be dead.”
Believing in Miracles: A Way of Life
Beloved, you don’t have to wait to need a miracle to believe in one. A miracle is simply what God does, and His Word stands as irrefutable proof of His miraculous power from the beginning of time. Our persistent faith in God’s Word is the trigger that unlocks the miraculous in our lives. As 2 Timothy 2:13 (Amplified Bible) reminds us: “If we are faithless, He remains faithful [true to His Word and His righteous character]; for He cannot deny Himself.”
Faith vs. Unbelief: The Battle for the Miraculous
Our unbelief does not hinder God’s ability to work miracles; it only hinders our ability to receive them. The miraculous is never dependent on our faithlessness, but on God’s faithfulness. It is time to quit doubting and instead exercise our faith for the miraculous, for with God, nothing shall be impossible [Luke 1:37]. As Jesus said in Luke 18:27, God’s Word Translation: “The things that are impossible for people to do are possible for God to do.”
Dr. Oral Roberts’ Miraculous Healing: A Testimony of Faith
At the age of seventeen, Dr. Oral Roberts was diagnosed with tuberculosis—a disease that, at the time, had no known medical cure. He was bedridden for over five months. However, he was miraculously healed during a tent revival in July 1935, conducted by evangelist George W. Moncey in Ada, Oklahoma. His healing was a divine miracle—an event that could not be explained by natural or scientific laws. The breakthrough in tuberculosis treatment came with the discovery of streptomycin, the first effective antibiotic against TB, in 1943 by Selman Waksman and his team. This marked a turning point in the fight against the disease, leading to the development of combination therapies that are still used today.
The Scientific and Divine Connection: What Is a Miracle?
According to Google, a miracle is “A surprising and welcome event that is not explicable by natural or scientific laws and is therefore considered to be the work of a divine agency.” Albert Einstein once said, “What is incomprehensible is beyond the realm of science. It is in the realm of God.” If the incomprehensible, as one of the greatest scientists ever stated, is beyond the realm of science and in the realm of God, the onus is on us to have faith in God [Mark 11:22].
The type of faith that unlocks the miraculous is not an inconsistent faith but persistent faith, as highlighted in Luke 18:8 (Amplified Bible): “When the Son of Man comes, will He find persistent faith on the earth?” [To be continued next week].
